Architects’ Day Announced for Advanced Composites in Construction 2013 Conference

The conference will take place from 10 – 12 September 2013 at Riddel Hall, Belfast, UK.

This successful event, which is now in its sixth year, has introduced an ‘Architects’ Day’ on Thursday 12th September and will look at the use of fibre-reinforced polymer composites (FRPs) in structural applications.

Organisers of this event, the Network Group for Composites in Construction (NGCC), identified that there was a lack of information available to architects about FRPs.

“Educating architects in the use of FRPs is one of our top priorities at the moment”, said Claire Whysall, Coordinator of NGCC. “The benefits that composite materials bring – including being lightweight, durable and requiring little maintenance – means that FRPs should be considered alongside traditional construction materials in the early stages of design to release their maximum potential.

“There have been some amazing structures built recently using FRP, and I’m positive that the ‘Architects’ Day’ at ACIC 2013 will encourage more architects to consider specifying composites.”

Architects’ Day is being offered at the discounted rate of £145. Full details are available from the conference website. Photo provided by Queen’s University Belfast.
