Airtech will present its new multi-purpose pressure sensitive tape, Wrightlease 2, its new Airdraw 2 vacuum bagging film and carbon tooling boards TB-G48 at JEC Europe 2015.
According to Airtech, Wrightlease 2 is a fluoropolymer PS Tape for multi-purpose use in the manufacture of composite parts. The tape is an extruded fluoropolymer film coated with silicone pressure sensitive adhesive. The orange colour is designed to be highly visible helping to reduce time stripping after use and avoid incomplete removal. Wrightlease has a high elongation and tensile strength so it can be applied wrinkle free over complex shaped parts.
Airtech says the benefits of Wrightlease 2 are:
Excellent release from all common resin systems; meaning it can be used for semi permanent release applications.
Good adhesion to metal, composite, tooling block and rubber tooling; making it a good choice for multiple applications in the workshop.
High elongation; allowing an easier covering of complex contour surfaces.
It explains that Airdraw 2 vacuum bagging film is embossed with a ”cracked ice” pattern which allows for rapid air removal when placed under vacuum. The film has been formulated to provide increased stiffness to assist in maintaining a breathable pattern.
Airtech claims that its Airdraw 2 is not affected by environmental conditions and will not soften in high humidity, allowing superior breathability. It is designed primarily for ply compaction with the added benefits of not requiring a breather. It is embossed from one side of the film, under close examination the film has a flat side and a raised side. The outer surface of the roll is the raised side. For best results, place the raised side against the part surface on top of a perforated release film.
Airtech explains tha the benefits of Airdraw 2 are:
Embossed pattern; providing network of air passageways, eliminating need for separate layer of breather.
Improved stiffer formula; keeping air path open resulting in better vacuum levels, faster.
Wide width (up to 140″); making compacting large parts even faster with no seams required.
Carbon tooling boards can be used to build composite mould tool support structures, bonding jigs, drill fixtures, post cure braces and for many more stable tooling pieces. Airtech says it employs the very latest in resin and manufacturing technology to produce our low cost and performance optimised carbon tooling boards TB-G48.
Benefits are described as:
The high glass transition temperature (247 °C); delivering stability at high temperature, ensuring long tool life and reducing life cycle costs.
Both sides of the panel have a highly visible Peel Ply layer in place; providing surface protection during storage and machining. Removal of the Peel Ply leaves a textured surface for bond preparation.
In addition to the standard board sises, the Airtech TB-G48 can also be supplied custom manufactured in thick section, ideal for when boards need to be machined to profile for Bonding Jigs. It says laminate constructions can be optimised for cost or performance by selection fabric styles and orientations.
