Advanced Composites Group has finalised expansion plans for an investment of over £7M in new buildings and equipment to create a new ‘world class’ composites Manufacturing and Technology Centre.

Advanced Composites Group, a Limited a member of the Composites Division of UMECO plc, said that the contractors have commenced operations in August 2005 and completion of building work and commissioning of new equipment is scheduled for September 2006.

The expansion will see the addition of over 30,000ft² to the existing Heanor facility in the UK, combined with major investments in new resin mixing and prepreg manufacture equipment. Within ACG’s plans is the creation of a “state-of-the-art” Technology Centre that will house the Company’s extensive technical support resource, incorporating resin formulation, testing, process engineering and structural design.

This major investment, along with ACG’s expanding workforce of over 350 staff worldwide, secures the Company’s future growth plans and will ensure it remains one of the UK’s leaders in composites.

ACG’s Managing Director, Alan Moore, was keen to communicate two important messages to ACG’s customers and the market as a whole:

“First and foremost this expansion ensures that ACG customers can continue to rely on the same high level of service provided to them over the last 15 years. Short lead-times and rapid responses to technical queries are core to ACG’s business philosophy and this investment will allow us to continue leading the market in quality of product, response times and customer service. At ACG we have always valued our existing customers and this expansion is designed to ensure that we continue to deliver on the high expectations of those who deal with us day to day.

“Over the next 5-10 years the Aerospace and Automotive markets will be major areas of growth for us and, with the large investment in new buildings, plant and machinery we are developing a ‘world class’ manufacturing facility to meet the quality demands of these markets. Our clear intention is to make ACG quality and our systems second to none in the composites industry.”

ACG was acquired by UMECO plc in 2004.
