On the 17 February 2015, the Biocomposites Sub Group, part of Composites UK, will host ‘Fibre Developments for Biocomposite Materials,’ an event encouraging discussion as to what further development and support is needed to highlight the use of biocomposite materials in mainline applications.

The event will take place at the National Composites Centre, Bristol, UK, and abstracts are requested by the 9th January. Abstracts should be no more than 500 words and should explore recent developments to improve the performance and/or reduce the cost of biocomposite materials in commercial applications. These abstracts should be sent to events@compositesuk.co.uk.

Composites UK explains, there is considerable renewed interest in natural-fibre composites due to recent advances in the technical performance of the materials, enabling them to be considered for mainline applications. Development of novel fibres, fibre blends, fibre treatments and functional additives e.g. for fire or weather protection has improved in-service performance and in some cases reduced final component costs. This event hopes to bring together researchers, material suppliers and end users,to be included in discussion.
