Reichhold Expands Manufacturing Capacity in Turkey

25th June 2010 0 comments

Reichhold have entered a new and additional manufacturing partnership in Turkey with Ilkalem Ticaret ve Sanayi A.S. that will expand the range of products locally produced by Reichhold and increase its overall capacity Reichhold Kimya Sanayi ve Ticaret A.S. (Reichhold Turkey), with its head office in Istanbul, was established in 2006 and since that date has developed both unsaturated composites and saturated polyester coatings business in the Turkish market. Key to this is the relationship established with their manufacturing partner Ege Kimya Sanayi ve Ticaret A.S. (Ege Kimya) based in Adapazari. With the ongoing growth of Reichhold’s business in the Turkish market the company will further expand its partnership with Ilkalem Ticaret ve Sanayi A.S. (Ilkalem), where Ilkalem will manufacture selected products to expand the range produced locally and increase its overall capacity. Reichhold will support these local manufacturing partners and assist them to develop their manufacturing facilities and operations to service the Reichhold range of products produced in Turkey.

Boeing 787 Dreamliner Passes 1,000 Hours of Flying

25th June 2010 0 comments

The Boeing 787 Dreamliner flight test fleet passed 1,000 hours of testing last week, approximately 40 percent through the test conditions required to certify the first version of the all-new composite jetliner. “”More work remains but we are seeing excellent progress in flight test,”” said Scott Fancher, vice president and general manager of the 787 program for Boeing Commercial Airplanes. “”Even more important than the hours we’ve logged are the test conditions we have completed. The team is being very efficient in getting the data we need.”” “”It’s also important to note that we are making solid progress on the ground testing required on the flight test fleet as well,”” Fancher said. The 787 will make its first appearance outside the US at the forthcoming Farnborough Air Show in the UK.

John Burn Introduces Filament Winding Epoxy

25th June 2010 0 comments

John Burn has introduced a new composite epoxy resin system, Biresin CR84, particularly aimed at filament winding, manufactured by Sika Tooling & Composites in Germany. The new resin system is particularly suited to the filament winding process due to its viscosity characteristics, good wetting out properties and a very long pot life. All this combined with a low cure temperature. Furthermore, Biresin CR84 is also versatile enough to also be used in the hand lay-up process. Biresin CR84 system not only has good wetting out properties, but is also modified to reduce the dripping from the fibres during winding. This ensures both high quality components and a clean working environment. The cured resin is tough and has good elongation to break. The pot life of Biresin CR84 with hardener Biresin CH84-20 is approx. 10 hours. This allows for working a complete 8 hour shift without changing the resin in the bath. The resin system can be cured at 70¡ãC to give a glass transition temperature ¡Ý 80¡ãC. Biresin CR84 has also been approved by Germanischer Lloyd and is non-toxic.

Componeering Releases ESAComp Version 4.1

25th June 2010 0 comments

Componeering has released version 4.1 of the ESAComp software tool for the analysis and design of composite structures. ESAComp focusses on the conceptual and preliminary designs stages, features a database for material properties and offers integration with other simulation tools used during the design process. The new ESAComp 4.1 release extends and enhances all these capabilities. For the design of structural elements, the new ESAComp version introduces a finite element-based analysis for curved plates. Hat stiffeners can now be defined for plates along with the beam-type stiffeners available previously. The pre-dimensioning of stiffened composite structures is an example where ESAComp speeds up the design process whilst achieving better optimized structures. The new add-on module for cylindrical structures is a powerful tool for the design of pressure vessels, pipes and shafts. For stiffened cylindrical structures, an add-on developed to meet the demands of the aerospace industry, is also now commercially available. For easy integration with finite element software, ESAComp now has an interface to ANSYS Composite PrepPost (ACP). For more detailed structural modelling, the material data and laminate lay-ups designed within ESAComp are exported to ACP. Throughout the design iterations, data can be exchanged between ACP and ESAComp.
