3D Composites Makes Available Technologies For Licence

UK-based 3D Composites, has announced it is making available, for the first time, new patented products and technologies to suitable ‘substantial and established’ companies on a licensing basis. Products for the building industry comprise composite three-dimensional modular panels, beam elements and a unique jointing system to create large three-dimensional structures. Typical applications include hospitals and offices, manufacturing plants, public and private housing, refrigerated and clean rooms, retail outlets and hotels. Resin Systems Inc – Superiority Of Composite Materials Resin Confirmed

Chemical technology company, Resin Systems Inc. issued the results of a series of tests conducted by the Alberta Research Council on the Company’s proprietary, environmentally friendly resins for the composite materials market. The tests were conducted to provide a “comparison of the mechanical properties of reinforced composite resins”. The results show that RSI’s urethane based resin is superior to current polyester resins as well as premium epoxy resins. An important test being conducted at the beta sites concerns the ability of the facilities to produce products at a faster rate in comparison to products produced with polyester or epoxy resins. The RSI resin is priced mid-way between polyester and epoxy resins.

China, Saudi Arabia to Produce Fiberglass Pipe

China and Saudi Arabia will jointly produce fiberglass pipes in Dalian, a coastal city in northeast China’s Liaoning Province. Construction of the Dalian Amiantit Fiberglass Pipe Co., Ltd. has begun and it will cost 35.8 million U.S. dollars. It is the first joint venture funded by Saudi Arabia in northeast China. The company is expected to put into operation in June 2001 and it will produce 10,000 tons of fiberglass and 15,000 tons of fiberglass tubes a year. Its annual sales volume is expected to reach 250 million yuan (about 30 million U.S. dollars). The equipment and technology were imported from the United States and Sweden

Iran Launches New Car Production Line

Iran Sunday launched a new-look fibreglass sport utility vehicle targeting young drivers at home and abroad. The new vehicle, named “Sinad,” is the first offering from Kish Khodro Company, a joint venture based on the Gulf island of Kish, one of three free-trade zones set up to draw foreign investment. Private Iranian investors hold 51 percent of Kish Khodro shares, a state development bank owns 40 percent and BMS Management, a British engineering group that designed the vehicle, holds a nine-percent stake. BMS is the second foreign company with a stake in an Iranian automobile firm, after Germany’s Mercedez Benz, which is in a joint venture to build trucks. Kish Khodro started the $11 million Sinad project with an initial production target of 5,000 SUV’s a year, rising to 15,000 per year in the future, said the company’s chairman Mohammad Safari. The two-door Sinad is priced at about $10,000. A four-door and sports models are due out later.

Denali Reports Third Quarter Results

Denali Incorporated announced results for the three months and nine months ended April 1, 2000. Revenues for the fiscal third quarter of 2000 increased 27 percent to $46,142,000, up from $36,328,000 during the third quarter of fiscal 1999. Net loss for the third quarter was $1,650,000, excluding the impact of a restructuring charge in fiscal year 2000, compared to net income of $476,000 for the third quarter of 1999, excluding an extraordinary item. U.S. operations were below plan primarily due to less demand for storage tanks in the petroleum equipment industry. European operations were below plan primarily due to slowness in capital spending by European chemical companies as well as weakness in the Euro currency. The Company manufactures engineered fiberglass-composite tanks, vessels, and piping systems, as well as steel, aboveground storage tanks. Avcorp Industries Inc reported a $79,000 second quarter loss compared to a loss of $9,610,000 in the same period last year and a loss of $99,000 in the previous quarter. Revenues increased 11% to $22,994,000 compared to $20,702,000 last year. The quarter benefited from one-time recoveries on both Boeing and Bombardier programs, which represented about 9% of the quarter’s sales and improved the gross margins in the quarter. ATK Reports Record Earnings

ATK, a leading aerospace and defense company and the nation’s largest supplier of military ammunition, said sharply improved operating margins and an aggressive share buyback program helped boost fiscal year 2000 earnings per share from continuing operations by more than 15 percent to a record $6.36 from $5.52 last year. Paul David Miller (PDM), chairman and chief executive officer, summarized fiscal year 2000 as outstanding from a financial, operational, and strategic perspective. Sales from the Aerospace segment rose 10 percent to $436 million from $395 million last year, reflecting higher sales of rocket motors for Delta launch vehicles and composite structures.
