Visitors to Cincinnati this summer will be going hog wild. More than 350 decorated fiberglass pigs will be hogging the streets of Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky from May 14 – October 31, 2000, as part of the Big Pig Gig, a community-wide public art event celebrating Cincinnati’s Porkopolis heritage. Proudly posing with names like Hamlet, Pigaletto, Pigasso, Porkemon and Road Hog, there are three designs for the fiberglass pigs: sitting, walking and standing. “Wings are optional,” explained Harkavy. Artists living within a 100-mile radius of downtown Cincinnati were eligible to submit designs. More than 900 pig designs were submitted to the Big Pig Gig Porkfolio. Many pigs will be auctioned off on November 13 to raise money for ARTWORKS and other local charities.
