Tecniplas Exports Composite Tanks to Argentina

Tecniplas has just dispatched two reservoirs to Argentina. The tanks will be installed in the pulp mill that Arauco operates in the city of Puerto Esperanza, in the province of Misiones, Argentina.

With 13.5 m height and 4.5 m diameter, the larger tank was designed to store up to 200 m³ of chlorine dioxide, pressure of -8" WG (vacuum). “One of its differentials is the fact of having thermal insulation guaranteed by polyurethane,” explains Luís Gustavo Rossi, Director of Tecniplas.

The second reservoir, with 11.3 m height, 4 m diameter and 135 m³ in capacity, will be used to store chlorine, chlorate solution and sodium hypochlorite at a temperature of 80 C° and under atmospheric pressure. “Its construction project contemplates an internal slope of 2%, which allows the fast and safe depletion of the tank.”

Both were produced in one piece, despite the dimensions, and have a series of nozzles and accessories, which made manufacturing even more complex. Provided with data books and structural calculation memories, the tanks made by Tecniplas are able to withstand wind loads up to 45 m/s (162 km/h).

During the manufacture of the tanks, Rossi recalls, Arauco did a series of inspections at Tecniplas plant in Cabreúva, São Paulo, Brazil. “Our manufacturing process and quality system were approved without reservations by Arauco, who approved us as strategic supplier of the plants located in Argentina and Chile.” Of Chilean capital, the company has equipment of Tecniplas operating without interruption since the decade of 1990.

In 2018, exports accounted for 22% of Tecniplas's revenues. For this year, Rossi believes that the slice tends to be even bigger, due to the great projects that are to happen in Latin America. “Hence taking into account not only the pulp and paper sector, but also mining and chemical.”
