AnalySwift is sponsoring the SAMPE 2018 Student Bridge Contest.
Hosted by the Society for the Advancement of Material and Process Engineering (SAMPE), the contest engages students through a team competition designing, manufacturing and testing small-scale structural bridges made from composite materials. Winners receive prizes, including cash and the SAMPE Student Bridge Champion trophy.
“With participation worldwide, this contest is an excellent opportunity for students interested in pursuing a career in advanced composites,” states Allan Wood, President & CEO of AnalySwift. “AnalySwift is pleased to offer student teams free access to the VABS composite simulation software. VABS helps accelerate students’ design and analysis with its rigorous modelling of slender composite structures, such as bridges. For instance, students can use VABS on a typical laptop computer to calculate the ply-level details with the accuracy of 3D FEA in seconds.”
This will be the 21st year SAMPE has hosted the event, which will be held on 23 May 2018 at the annual International Spring SAMPE Convention in Long Beach, California, US. According to SAMPE, 74 teams from 27 universities and colleges from five countries participated in 2017.
“VABS is capable of rigorously reducing an original 3D slender solid with complex cross-sections into a simple engineering beam model,” according to Dr Wenbin Yu, CTO of AnalySwift. “With continuous development funded by the US Army spanning nearly 30 years for performance and robustness, VABS' accuracy has been extensively verified.”
Cobra International will showcase a range of composite products at CAMX 2018, including carbon fibre components for the automotive, transportation, marine, water sports and luxury sectors.
A skateboard, architectural panels and a rigid roof for boats, all built using Chomarat composite reinforcements, will be on display at CAMX 2018.
The American Composites Manufacturers Association participated in a roundtable discussion about the IMAGINE Act. Known as the Innovative Materials in American Growth and Infrastructure, Newly Expanded (IMAGINE) Act, the new bill is designed to promote the increased use of innovative materials like fibre reinforced polymer (FRP) composites, as well as new manufacturing methods to accelerate the deployment and extend the life of infrastructure projects.
