With the aim of expanding its activities into the European market, Japan-based thermoplastic composites manufacturer MaruHachi is collaborating with Dr. Michael Effing of German business consultancy AMAC, who will advise and support the company strategically.
MaruHachi has a strong history in automotive and medical textiles and has been active in the composites market for more than 10 years. The aim of the cooperation between MaruHachi and AMAC is the strategic development of new business opportunities in Europe, particularly in target markets such as sports and leisure, consumer goods, electronics and electrical, building and infrastructure, aviation, automotive and rail.

"We are happy to benefit from Dr. Effing´s long-term experience as a pioneer in the composites industry, developing TEPEX thermoplastic composites sheets at DuPont in the 1990s and his high-quality network. With our products, we want to contribute to significant weight reductions of the final product, thus improving energy efficiency while offering a cost-efficient and high-quality solution."

MaruHachi is partner of the AZL in Aachen, Germany, and participates in the AZL thermoplastic business platform together with 17 other partners including Cato, DSM, DuPont, Evonik, HELM and Schuler.

The Institute for Advanced Composites Manufacturing Innovation (IACMI) has announced the Phase I completion of a project led by DuPont, partnering with Fibrtec and Purdue University, focused on the creation of a new carbon fibre composite manufacturing process that exhibits improved fabric formability characteristics compared to traditional woven materials.
Powertrains, be they conventional, hybrid or fully electric, will need to be light in weight if carmakers are to meet the stringent regulations on carbon dioxide emissions (CO2) to come into force in 2025 – and composites will be key to making this happen. This was the message highlighted at the Lightweight Composite Solutions Conference organised by Vyncolit and Sumitomo Bakelite Co Ltd and held in Gent, Belgium.
