Composites One Announces Partnership with IACMI

27 October 2015

Composites One, along with the Closed Mold Alliance and Magnum Venus Products, has partnered with the Institute for Advanced Composites Manufacturing Innovation (IACMI) to lead four schools in 2016 focused on advanced process and materials.

More details about the partnership will be announced to the media at 11:00, 28 October 2015, during a LIVE press announcement during the Lean Mean Process Machine…Redux, in booth S94 during CAMX 2015 in Dallas, US.

“This is an incredible opportunity,” said Composites One President and COO Leon Garoufalis.  “Over the past decade, we’ve provided hands-on training in closed moulding and advanced processes to more than 4,000 manufacturing professionals. With IACMI, we’ll reach an even wider audience, ultimately helping to grow composites manufacturing in the US and working to create more jobs in the composites industry.”

A public-private partnership, IACMI is supported by the US Department of Energy’s Advanced Manufacturing Office and is one of eight organisations comprising the National Network of Manufacturing Innovation.“Partnering with Composites One reinforces our mission to accelerate the development and adoption of cutting-edge manufacturing technologies for low-cost, energy-efficient manufacturing of advanced polymer composites,” said IACMI CEO Craig Blue.

Through the partnership, Composites One and the Closed Mold Alliance will lead four two-day schools in advanced composites technologies at key IACMI locations across the US. Sessions include:

  • Process & Advanced Materials Workshop – 5-6 April in Knoxville, Tennessee (Oak Ridge National Lab)

  • Intermediate Processing & Wind Energy Workshop – 14-15 June in Denver, Colorado (NREL)

  • Process & Advanced Materials Workshop – 9-10 August in West Lafayette, Indiana (Purdue University)

  • Process & Automotive Market Advances in Composites – 1-2 November in Detroit, Michigan (Michigan State)

The schools will cover such topics as advanced and closed mould processing, out-of-autoclave production, additive manufacturing (3D printing) light-weighting of products, prototyping, selecting systems and equipment, advancements in composites and high performance materials, data acquisition, modelling and simulation. Instructors include process experts from Composites One and the Closed Mold Alliance – a resource dedicated to helping manufacturers make a successful conversion to closed mould and other advanced processes. Along with Composites One, the Alliance founding members include Magnum Venus Products and RTM North Ltd.
