MT Aerospace has selected Plataine’s Total Production Optimisation (TPO) FabricOptimizer and Material & Asset Tracker (MAT) solutions to improve their manufacturing efficiencies through increased material yields and manufacturing throughput in their Augsburg, Germany plant.
According to Plataine, MT Aerospace has implemented TPO FabricOptimizer to reach optimised cut plan decisions and TPO MAT to enable real-time monitoring and traceability of carbon fibre and other time-sensitive production kits and materials.
“Implementing Plataine’s solutions not only helped us to reduce manual tasks and paperwork in the factory but also led to 11% material savings, and improved our total productivity and quality control” said Jürgen Moeller, Vice President, Head of Manufacturing Aeronautics & Composites. “Together with the excellent customer service and support, the results were beyond expectations”.
Plataine explains that its TPO solution offer composite component manufacturers a fully integrated solution for dynamic optimisation and tracking of the composites structure manufacturing processes, from the Freezer to the Autoclave, and beyond. Seamlessly integrated to the manufacturer's ERP, CAD and Production Floor systems, TPO creates ready-to-cut production plans by optimally selecting the composite materials to use and generating the optimal production plan. It says, TPO achieves this by matching the order due date, order quantity, actual material expiration date and size (width & length) while considering the full order plan for additional optimisation opportunities. Plataine claims that TPO drives significant cost savings and increased productivity by offering higher material utilisation, better inventory management and faster - more flexible - time to market. TPO further reduces costs by automating routine manual tasks and eliminating any errors associated with them, and weaving the digital thread from raw material to fabricated product.

Coriolis Composites has been selected by the National Institute for Aviation Research (NIAR) at Wichita State University (WSU), US, to provide a thermoplastics capable Automated Fibre Placement (AFP) system.
Boeing and Thermwood have employed additive manufacturing technology to produce a large, single-piece tool for the 777X programme. The project is demonstrating that additive manufacturing is ready to produce production quality tooling for the aerospace industry.
CRP USA will display solutions for the space industry manufactured in the Windform family of materials at Satellite Innovation 2018 at the Silicon Valley Computer History Museum, Mountain View, California, US, on 9-11 October.
