11 Composite Innovations to Receive an Award at JEC Americas 2015

21 April 2015

In its mission to spot and promote the most advanced composite innovations, JEC Group has revealed the 11 winners of JEC Innovation Awards.

“This year, the JEC Americas awards program offers a varied selection of worthy projects after a careful selection. From raw materials to softwares, along with a few applicative categories: automotive, aeronautics, consumer goods, the prizes cover the whole value chain. A few trends are made particularly clear here; mass production and accelerated rates are the main goals, with as much efficiency as possible and at lesser costs.” says Mrs. Frédérique Mutel, JEC Group President and CEO.

JEC Americas will be held at the Grove, Houston, Texas, US, from 2nd to 4th June 2015, and JEC says it will be the stage where the Composites Industry truly demonstrates how these new materials push the limits of Innovation in every Industry. Excellence through Technology and Innovation will also be underlined during this year keynote speakers interventions, Ron Garan, Astronaut, Social Entrepreneur & Motivational Speaker and Byron Pipes, Director of Design and Simulation Technology Area from the Institute for Advanced Composites Manufacturing Innovation Purdue University.

The 11 champions of composites materials receiving a JEC innovation award are:

  • Raw Materials - Blueshift International Materials, Texas, US, for its 100% polymer aerogel which can be easily incorporated into composites.
  • Consumer Electronics - Motorola Mobility, Illinoise, US, for its antenna friendly, tough and artistically designed cases for the mobile industry.
  • Biocomposites - Composites Innovation Center Manitoba, Canada, for its FibreCITY: self-sustainable, high-throughput, comprehensive, fibre grading capability.
  • Process – CETIM, France, for its Quilted Stratum Process: a breakthrough approach for high performance thermoplastic composites.
  • Equipment – RUAG Space, Switzerland, for its new insert allows which automatic placement in composite sandwich panels.
  • Mass Production – Bcomp, Switzerland, for its novel natural-fibre composite solution for the automotive industry.
  • MRO – German Aerospace Center (DLR), Germany, for its flexible repair technology.
  • Automotive  – Johnson Controls, Germany, for its ‘CAMISMA’ project: a new and radical multi-material concept.
  • Aeronautics – Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt, Germany, for its ultrasound process monitoring with a network of a high number of low-cost sensors.
