AIMPLAS Develops Biodegradable and Recyclable Packages for Cheeses and Fresh Pasta

The Technological Institute of Plastic (AIMPLAS) has developed a new transparent,multilayer, barrier, biodegradable and recyclable package for fresh food and different kinds of cheeses that require a Modified Atmosphere Packaging.

According to Aimplas, it collaborated with nine companies to complete the projectincluding Vallés Plàstic responsible for applying a new coating made of natural waxes in order to achieve the needed humidity barrier, and Artibal, responsible of the formulation of the water barrier coating.

Nuria López, Resarcher, Aimplas commented “The function of AIMPLAS in this project… is focused on the development of biodegradable and barrier material necessary to fulfill the final requirements of the food to be packaged, and it is responsible for processing the new materials which are being developed to obtain the new multilayer package.”
