Isle of Wight College Secures £11 Million Funding for New Composites Training Facility

The Isle of Wight College has secured a successful £11 million bid to develop a new 3,500 m2 Centre of Excellence for Composites, Marine and Advanced Manufacturing.

The facility will be located in Whippingham, East Cowes, UK offering specialised education and training for around 600 students.

According to Isle of Wight College, the bid for funding for this project was led by GKN Aerospace and supported by other local employers in the composites, marine and advanced manufacturing industries.

“I am delighted for all concerned that the Isle of Wight College has helped secure investment in this most critical area of the economy,” says Peter Conway, Chair of Governors at the Isle of Wight College. “This successful bid recognises the excellent partnership and relationships that exist between employers such as GKN Aerospace, the College and the Local Authority.”

Debbie Lavin, College Principal “This is a massive breakthrough for the Isle of Wight. The new centre will create a world-class workforce and help to assure sustainable long term economic success for local people and the island as a whole.”

This is the fourth new investment secured by the Isle of Wight College this year, bringing the total to over £20 million.
