Biobuild, a project to reduce the embodied energy in construction materials with no increase in cost, will present at “Architects’ Day” at Advanced Composites in Construction 2013.
Biobuild is a collaborative project part-funded by the European Commission. It has 13 partners from seven European countries, which sees the project look at using biocomposite materials to reduce the embodied energy in building-façade, supporting-structure and internal-partition systems by at least 50% over current materials with no increase in cost.
Architects’ Day will take place during the sixth biennial Advanced Composites in Construction Conference, which will be held at Queens University, Belfast on 10-12 September. The conference will bring together practicing engineers, asset managers, researchers and representatives of regulatory bodies in order to promote an active exchange of scientific and technical information on the rapidly changing scene of advanced composites in construction.
The presentation “Biocomposites in Architecture – The Biobuild Project” will cover the aims of Biobuild and the materials it is using to try to achieve its objectives, including the treatments and processes that are being incorporated, complete with case studies.

The research leading to these results has received funding from the European Community’s Seventh Framework Programme Theme EeB-NMP.2011-1 under grant agreement 285689.
