Newly Formed ‘Composites Germany’ Promote Association at K-Fair, Dusseldorf, Germany

19 November 2013

The four companies that formed the association were out in force to promote the benefits of Composites Germany at the K Trade Fair from 16 - 23 October in Dusseldorf, Germany.

The four organisations are AVK – Industrievereinigung Verstärkte Kunststoffe (AVK), Carbon Composites (CCeV), CFK-Valley Stade (CFK-Valley) and Forum Composite Technology in the VDMA (VDMA).

When asked to describe the relevance of composites to the German industry, Dr. Michael Effing, of AVK explained, “Germany is a global leader both in the automobile sector and, through Airbus, in the aviation sector as well as in mechanical engineering. As we have just seen at the K Trade Fair in Düsseldorf, we are also a leader in the area of composites – in the production of the materials themselves and the integrative manufacturing technologies. Composites are a key technology and must remain so for us in Germany and Europe.”

Dr. Reinhard Janta of CCEV spoke about why Composites Germany was formed by the four main organisations. “We have not founded another association but an umbrella organisation. We aim to bring together the common themes and interests of the individual associations and communicate these to the outside world with a single voice. This will give our industry both a face and a mouthpiece.”

Prof. Axel Herrmann of CFK-Valley added, “By coordinating and combining our activities in Germany, we can improve the strength of the lightweight construction industry and thus Germany as a location for industry in general. Our international competitiveness will improve and our member companies will profit as a consequence.”

The aims of Composites Germany include the following.

  • Lobbying;
  • Public relations;
  • Promotion of technology and innovation;
  • International public representation;
  • Education and advanced training;
  • Standardisation/Norms;
  • Market information; and
  • Participate in trade fairs and events.
