Sandwich panels designed and supplied by Barracuda Advanced Composites of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, have been implemented in the form of theatre acoustic coverage surroundings.
Barracuda Composites say the construction and major renovation of theatres has been relying on the benefits offered by composite materials, by combining their properties of light weight, durability and acoustic insulation, without interfering with the aesthetics of the original works architectural design.
Sandwich panels designed and materials supplied by Barracuda Advanced Composites include the use of high strength fibres and wood decorative veneers bonded by a lamination process using vacuum bag pressure with epoxy resin systems over a sandwich core. According to Barracuda Composites these panels, manufactured in a variety of shapes and sizes, provide great flexibility for engineers and architects in civil engineering design and construction projects.
The company claim that currently, the use of these panels is being implemented in the form of acoustic coverage surroundings in the Theatre of Lima with seating for 1500 guests. This theatre re-development uses the latest technology in acoustics and sound engineering to support performance genres ranging from opera, philharmonic orchestra concerts, Broadway shows and more. The theatre was inaugurated end of 2012 with a performance of the opera-ballet “Akas Kas” by the composer Nilo Valverde.
