CTG has completed the construction and fit out of a state-of-the-art Composite Centre of Excellence facility in Banbury, Oxfordshire, UK.
The facility is 137,000 sq. ft. and, according to CTG, its construction was approached with an environmental and sustainable focus. The centre will unite CTG’s six current sites into one location and give CTG an overall footprint increase of more than 90 percent. CTG hopes the move will enable them to manufacture volume quantities more effectively of advanced composite products and systems used across a range of high technology industries. Employees have started moving in, and the facility will be fully operational by June 2013.
CTG says the amenities will include dedicated production lines, a technical library, high-tech smart boards, a gymnasium and flexible meeting spaces. The facility has been designed using CTG’s parent company, UTC Aerospace Systems’ (UTC) Achieving Competitive Excellence (ACE) lean principles which focus on material flow and flexibility. Layout of the production area has been planned using value stream envelopes and CTG statistics state this has enabled wasted space to be lowered by more than 30 percent and linkage and flow improvement to increase by 50 percent in comparison to the old sites.

Toho Tenax is introducing a high-tensile, highly shock-resistant prepreg that incorporates carbon fibre developed for aerospace applications and carbon nanotubes (CNTs).
Thai Flight Training (TFT), a subsidiary of Thai Airways, recently ordered an Airbus A320 door trainer from Spatial Composite Solutions.
NTPT is collaborating with the Ecole polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne - Swiss Centre of Technology (EPFL) and other partners to research discontinuous fibre composite tubes for high performance applications.
