FORMAX to Present Next Generation of Reinforcements at Composites Europe 2013

FORMAX will be launching two new exclusive fabric ranges at Composites Europe 2013, which takes place on 17 – 19 September in Stuttgart, Germany.

The first, called A-FORM, is a range of Class-A automotive textiles and secondly, reFORM, a recycled multi-axial reinforcement manufactured entirely from reprocessed carbon. Details of a new Drape Simulation Technology will also be available at the show.

As the automotive industry continues to seek superior quality carbon fibre textiles in increasing volumes, FORMAX says it has responded with the development of several highly specialised fabrics that are suitable for the production of Class-A body panel components.  Based around +/-45 degree configurations and ranging in weights from 150-300gsm, these reinforcements minimise cure and processing times, thereby greatly reducing labour and painting costs. Thanks to super-fine stitching and a variety of laminated surface veils the undesirable effect of ‘print through’ on finished parts is eliminated.

The creation of a new Recycling Division at FORMAX’s UK headquarters has allowed the company to devote considerable resource into optimising and developinga recycled materials range. reFORM is a new reinforcement manufactured entirely from reprocessed carbon fibre wastage and is engineered for a variety of non-structural and structural applications across a range of industries.

FORMAX now also has the capability to support customers with specialist Drape Simulation software that enables the optimisation of fabric design. The programme predicts how a material will perform and drape during the manufacturing process and highlight areas of difficulty such as creasing and permeability issues.
