NetComposites Organise Event on FRP Composites in Railway Applications

18 September 2012

On 4th October 2012, NetComposites will run its latest technical workshop titled “FRP Composite Materials in Railway Applications” at the Enterprise Centre in Derby.

Fibre reinforced polymer composites (FRPs) have been used in railway applications for many years. Their use has included everything from luggage racks to driver’s cabs, station platforms to footbridges. For trains themselves, FRPs offer designers opportunities for light-weighting, geometrical complexity, crashworthiness and design integration. As for their use in infrastructure, FRPs offer the advantage of offsite modular construction, thereby minimising disruption to passengers and operators, as well as enhanced durability.

This half day event will look at the latest uses for fibre reinforced polymers (FRP’s) in the railway industry, their opportunities and challenges. Presentations include:

  • The Challenges of Designing and Validating Composite Structures for Rail Vehicles - John Roberts, Bombardier
  • FRP in Rail Infrastructure - Station Platforms and Bridges - David Kendall, Optima Projects
  • FireBlock - Fire Retardant Resins - Kevin Louis, CCP Composites
  • The Research, Design and Development of Creative, Innovative Advanced Passenger Train Interiors for the Year 2020 and Beyond - John Wood, University of Northampton

Registration for this event is now open at £95 (ex VAT) for a full delegate place and £65 (ex VAT) for students. For more information and to register visit http://www.netcomposites.com/workshops or contact the organiser, Claire Whysall on claire.whysall@netcomposites.com
