European Adhesives Manufacturing Plant Increases Output

20 March 2012

ITW Plexus has begun to manufacture its range of methyl methacrylate structural adhesives in its European facility based in Shannon, Ireland.

According to ITW, they are now producing Plexus MA300 & MA310 1:1 adhesives & activator for both the European & Asian market at the plant and they report that more adhesives will be moved to Shannon in due course.  Previously its MMA adhesives were manufactured in the USA at Plexus’ plant in Danvers, Massachusetts, and then shipped in bulk to Shannon where they were re-packed into pails & cartridges for its European & Asian customer base.

ITW explain the filling operation will remain the same but the company has told us that the local manufacturing base provides improved stock control mechanisms, which are particularly crucial for the short shelf life products in the range. They say that customers will benefit since product quality will be enhanced and Plexus claims that it will now be able to react faster to customer requirements.

By no longer importing its MMA adhesives from the USA, this benefits ITW's ISO 14001 Environmental Management Certification.  ITW say their carbon footprint has been improved as the raw materials are sourced from within the EU and these new practices have helped to build a more environmentally sustainable business model.

It is the company’s intention to expand and develop its Plexus product portfolio & eventually become self sufficient in terms of its manufacturing.  Until then they say their European and Asian customers can expect consistency in both product and service as a result of the move of production to its Shannon manufacturing site.
