FIP Gasketing Resin Offers Advantages over Traditional Materials

13 March 2012

Dymax Corporation’s See-Cure GA-140-SC is a UV/Visible light-curable, Form-In-Place (FIP), Cure-In-Place (CIP) gasketing resin that they say is ideal for applications requiring soft, tack-free, flexible gaskets for sealing fuel cells, critical electronic assemblies such as LCD frame assemblies, and plastic assemblies, offering advantages over traditional gasketing materials.

According to Dymax, the resin is a silicone-free, one-part resin that requires no mixing and can be dispensed into intricate and complex configurations. They explain that its ability to be cured in-line allows for increased production speed and throughput, lower processing costs, and reduced inventories.

Dymax says that GA-140-SC is a soft, low-outgassing gasket resin that cures in seconds, conforms to intricate channels or recesses, and has excellent tear resistance for serviceable and limited-service applications.  The resin has been designed for flat flanges, wide shallow grooves, or flat surfaces, and they explain that the Dymax permanent FIP gaskets can eliminate the delay experienced with slow-curing resins as well as the design, inventory, and labour expense associated with pre-cut gaskets.

Formulated with patented See-Cure technology, they explain that GA-140-SC is bright blue in an uncured state, enabling automated vision systems and manual operations to confirm placement prior to cure.  As the product cures with sufficient exposure, its blue colour transitions to clear and provides obvious visual confirmation that the adhesive is fully cured and the bond site is secure.
