Nova-Institute to Complete Market Study on Bio-Based Plastics

11 October 2011

Nova-Institute will carry out a worldwide market study on bio-based plastics titled "Bio-Based Plastics in the World - Capacities, Production and Applications: Status Quo and Trends Towards 2020" which they aim to start in December 2011.

According to Nova-Institute there is a lack of basic data on bio-based plastics which they believe is impeding the growth of the global market. They explain that their market researchers, along with leading international bioplastic experts have developed a full concept for a multi-stakeholder market study.

They explain that one of the main results of the study is a list of all producers of bio-based plastics in the world. The study will cover all kind of bio-based polymers and plastics - biodegradable and durable, thermoplastics, thermosets and elastomers - like starch blends, PLA, PHA/PHB, PBS, CA, Bio-PE, Bio-PDO and many more, including the main bio-based building blocks. Early subscribers will not only have full access to intermediate results, but also be part of the advisory board of the project, which will meet four times during the project. Nova-Institute says that as a member of the advisory board you can place your specific questions and influence the topics of the study.

Nova-Institute say that, as of the end of September, among others, the following associations and companies have subscribed and will join the advisory board: Plastics Europe (Brussels), European Bioplastics (Berlin), IAR (France), Ontario BioAuto Council (Canada), Bayer Material Science (Germany), DSM (The Netherlands), PURAC (The Netherlands), Roquette (France) and Tereos Syral (France).

The deadline for interested stakeholders to join the advisory board as early subscribers is October 31st. Details are available directly from the CEO of nova-Institute Michael Carus by emailing
