Rennteam Uni Stuttgart Uses Chem-Trend's Materials

For several years the Rennteam Uni Stuttgart has participated successfully in the Formula Student, an international junior motor sport contest with currently nine official venues on all continents, and Chem-Trend provides the students with Chemlease branded release agents and mould sealers.

""We've been using Chem-Trend's release agents and mould sealers in the construction of our CFK Monocoque for five years, and have achieved very good results with them.""

Mould release agents are needed in the construction of composite components in order to easily separate the moulded parts from the moulds. In addition, release agents have an impact on the finished part quality, for instance the surface finish of the end part is strongly influenced by the choice of release agent as they can allow for the creation of high-gloss or matt-finishes.

Mould sealers on the other hand have an important part in the preparation of the mould. Even if the unsealed mould seems smooth and flawless to the touch, there are still microscopic ""holes"" into which, during the lamination process, the resin can run and solidify. Such ""resin spikes"" would prevent the damage-free demoulding of the component. Mould sealers help to seal off these tiny holes, enabling a smooth and flawless mould surface. The less defects on the surface of the monocoque, the higher its resistance to static as well as dynamic stress.
