Over the weekend, a 61.5 meter long blade, believed to be the world’s largest wind turbine blade, was transported from Lunderskov to the Danish capital, Copenhagen.
Travelling approximately 256km, the 18.8 tonne blade’s final destination was Copenhagen’s Bella Center, the venue for COP15 (United Nations Climate Change Conference) due to be held 7-18th December 2009.

The blade was developed mainly for offshore projects and has been used in wind farms off the coast of Germany, Scotland and Belgium. It is believed that in a twenty-year lifespan, a 5 MW wind turbine installed with these blades can help save CO2 emissions corresponding to 180,000 tons.
Once at the Bella Center, the blade was installed at the building’s main entrance as a greeting to the delegates of COP15. This installation forms part of the Wind Power Works Campaign in collaboration with GWEC, the Global Wind Energy Council and Vindmølleindustrien, the Danish wind industry association.
Manufacturers hope that this blade will represent the significant developments made in renewable wind energy; just 25 years ago, it is estimated that the largest wind turbines had blades with a diameter of 15 meters and were only capable of producing 50 kW of electricity. Today, the largest mass-produced wind turbine has a rotor diameter of 126 meters, sweeps the near-equivalent of two football pitches and is capable of producing 5 MW a year.

Electric GT Holdings and SPV Racing recently unveiled the race-ready version of the EPCS V2.3 Tesla P100DL at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. The car features lightweight body parts made using Bcomp's ampliTex and powerRibs natural fibre composite reinforcement products, contributing to a 500 kg weight reduction over the road edition.
UK company Codem Composites has provided key bodywork components to support the F1 team Sahara Force India.
