Klingenburg, specialist manufacturers of large rotor-based heat exchangers, have applied Araldite two-component adhesive in their latest large-scale project.
The new production facility located in Bremen is reported to be the largest of its kind in Europe. The temperature and air quality inside the building had to meet the most stringent requirements not only for the comfort of the facilities workers, but also due to the sensitive materials being assembled within.
The complex design and manufacturing process was made possible through the use of Araldite two-component adhesive by Huntsman Advanced materials, which was selected as it cures in less than a minute and has a low viscosity essential in a fast production process.
During the winter season fifteen 3.73 m diameter heat exchangers supplied by Klingenburg are able to extract 11.400 KW of energy from the exhausted air and transfer and channel the energy to bringing fresh air into the production building.
The exchanger is a rotor with a contact surface of 47.714 m2, built in aluminium. This is equivalent to an immense surface area of six football pitches. The total weight of all fifteen exchangers is 17. 5 tons.
Half of the rotor is heated with the exhausted air while the fresh air passes through the other half. At the end of the cycle, the rotor is rotated 180° on its axis. The fresh air then passes through the heated half of the exchanger as it makes its way through the building. The rotation speed of the rotor is10 rpm.
Klingenburg is now extending their production capacity by building a new production hall in which a second winding machine for rotors with diameters up to 8m is now being installed.

Electric GT Holdings and SPV Racing recently unveiled the race-ready version of the EPCS V2.3 Tesla P100DL at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. The car features lightweight body parts made using Bcomp's ampliTex and powerRibs natural fibre composite reinforcement products, contributing to a 500 kg weight reduction over the road edition.
