Working closely with Huntsman Advanced Materials, D3 has designed a sophisticated carbon fibre chair moulded in four parts.
The products used are a range of Huntsman materials including SV/HV 4503 -1 seamless modelling paste (SMP), Araldite LY564/Aradur 3487 epoxy resin system, Araldite 420 toughened epoxy adhesive and the latest addition to the Araldite 2000 PLUS range, Araldite 2031, a general purpose toughened black epoxy adhesive selected for its superior structural stability and flexibility.
Some of the removable parts of the infusion moulds have been produced by a well-known prototyping company Creaxia using Huntsman stereolithography resin RenShape SL 7810.
Patrick Jouin, one of France’s top designers, has designed the durable chair with curved proportions that blends aesthetics and science. The seat cushion is made of Araldite Highly Flexible Composite - a new fibre reinforced composite with both flexibility and strength, to complement the modern design. Sleek and radical, it has been chosen for a leading Michelin star restaurant in Paris.

“Whilst the chair must have some flexibility, it has to be able to withstand the constant and demanding strains put on it by customers. Huntsman materials give the chair excellent mechanical resistance features that allow it to take all the loads, breaking and twisting strains put on it by the hundreds of customers dining at the restaurant every month.”
