Alcan Airex has reached agreement with Armacell GmbH about a license for foamable PET (polyethylene terephthalate) technologies.
As part of this agreement, Armacell officially recognises the validity of the patents for foamable PET technologies owned by Alcan Airex AG.
Alcan Airex AG grants a worldwide, non-exclusive and non-gratuitous license for the production and distribution of products using the patents for applications outside of packaging applications to Armacell and its subsidiaries. With the license agreement signed, both parties have agreed to withdraw all pending lawsuits between them as well as all patent infringement proceedings. Further details of the license agreement were not disclosed.
“Armacell acknowledges the full validity of both patents for the foaming and the welding technology of PET owned by Alcan Airex,” said Dr. Karl Paetz-Lauter, Managing Director of Armacell International Holding GmbH. “After having evaluated various options, we have come to the conclusion that this technology is not only the most performing but also the most economic solution to produce PET foam for structural and industrial applications. Receiving a license from Alcan Airex enables us to strengthen our position as supplier of high performing PET-based core materials to our key markets.”
“We are satisfied with the agreement and the fact that a leading industrial company such as Armacell fully recognises the value and validity of our intellectual property,” said Pierre Monéton, President of Alcan Composites Core Materials. “We will continue to invest in new and innovative materials and solutions for our key strategic markets. Having strong partners taking licenses will accelerate the acceptance of these new technologies and offers a broader availability of PET-based core materials to the market.”
