On October 22-24, 2008 at the JEC Asia trade show, the composite industry will give users from all the different markets a glimpse of its most advanced technologies.
Applications in transportation, building & construction, and energy will take centre stage this year.
“The composite sector is very lively, with global annual growth at 6% and double-digit growth in the Asia/Pacific region. That huge region accounts for 36% of the global composite market, and its share could climb to 46% by 2015,” said JEC Group President and CEO Frédérique Mutel.
“The composite industry plans to use JEC Asia to exhibit all of the technologies and processes that are capable of addressing local demands in the most cost-effective and environment-friendly way, while taking sustainable development goals into account.”
“Innovation accompanies every stage along the value chain; upstream, raw materials producers are putting out new generations of thermoset and thermoplastic resins and increasingly high-performance fibres, as well as plant-based biocomposites for matrices, like for instance starch or castor oil, or for reinforcement: hemp, flax, abaca, reed, or bamboo...”
“JEC Asia 2008 will demonstrate the industrialization of processes. Two examples among many are the development of RTM, especially in aeronautics, and infusion moulding, which is spreading in the marine sector. Building and construction is booming all the way from the Middle East to Asia/Pacific Rim. The composite solutions presented here are numerous and for all types of specifications, which is what the region calls for! The environment is very much on board, either directly with energy-source products like wind turbines and solar panels, or indirectly with lightweight structures like aircraft and vehicles that consume less and lower energy costs.”

The event also has the support of the scientific community: Stanford University (USA), Hanyang University (Korea), and, in Singapore, NUS (National University of Singapore), A*STAR (Institute of Manufacturing Technology), EDB (Economic Development Board), BCA (Building and Construction Authority), STB (Singapore Tourism Board) and LTA (Land Transport Authority).

The UK's Engineering Industries Association (EIA) and the Manufacturing Technologies Association (MTA) have received confirmation of government funding for UK engineering companies to exhibit at overseas trade shows.
Solvay reports that Advanced Sensor Technologies Inc (ASTi) has selected Ryton polyphenylene sulphide (PPS) to mould protective housings for two industrial-grade sensors.
NTPT is collaborating with the Ecole polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne - Swiss Centre of Technology (EPFL) and other partners to research discontinuous fibre composite tubes for high performance applications.
