TechFab has officially changed its name to Chomarat North America and has also added two new products to its C-Grid product line.
In December 2006, France-based Groupe Chomarat, purchased the remaining 50 percent share of TechFab, LLC, which was formerly owned by Hexcel Corporation
From January 3, 2008, the ongoing operations and business activities of TechFab, LLC and Rovicore, LLC will be consolidated into a single corporate commercial entity. Bruce Hinton, former President of TechFab, LLC will serve as the President of Chomarat North America.
The new C-Grid products, identified as C50 – 3.5 x 4.0 and C50 – 2.2 x 2.2 join the C C-Grid C50 series of carbon fibre grids. The products are designed with larger openings to make it easier to place large aggregate concrete mixes where a lower strength, more economical product is needed. These products are expected to be quickly adopted by the construction community for use as reinforcement for concrete where corrosion resistance and crack control are desired.
Both C-Grid products are made using Zoltek Panex carbon fibre supplied by Zoltek Company of St. Louis, Missouri.
TechFab has also formed a strategic alliance partnership with Denso North America Inc. to develop a proprietary system for strengthening deteriorated timber and concrete piles by combining the strength of TechFab’s C-Grid carbon fibre grids with Denso’s SeaShield pile jacketing systems.
The technical partnership will combine the advanced testing and development capabilities of both companies to create a revolutionary encapsulation system that not only protects timber and concrete piles from aggressive saltwater environments and marine borers, but also strengthens deteriorated piles with a durable, non-corrosive reinforcement.
Toho Tenax is introducing a high-tensile, highly shock-resistant prepreg that incorporates carbon fibre developed for aerospace applications and carbon nanotubes (CNTs).
NTPT is collaborating with the Ecole polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne - Swiss Centre of Technology (EPFL) and other partners to research discontinuous fibre composite tubes for high performance applications.
Hexcel is promoting its range of composite materials for skis, snowboards and other high performance winter sports equipment at ISPO Munich 2018 on 28-31 January.
