Maine Composites Firm Wins $12M Navy Deal

30 April 2008

Maine Secure Composites LLC has landed a $12 million contract from the U.S. Navy to develop and build more secure cargo containers.

The Orono, Maine-based materials company will develop and prototype composite anti-tamper containers in an effort to increase port security under the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Security Advanced Container Security Device program.

Maine Secure Composites is a tenant of the Target Technology Incubator at the University of Maine. The company performs R&D services using composite materials on cargo containers, focusing on the homeland security, shipping and defence markets.

Work under this latest Navy deal, which is an indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract, will be performed in Orono and is expected to be completed by April 2013.
