LM Glasfiber Signs Long-Term Supply Agreement with Vestas in India

16 October 2007

LM Glasfiber has signed a new three-year supply agreement with Vestas, to supply 1,500 MW blades for Vestas’ V82-1.65 MW turbine, which is produced in Chennai, India.

The blades will be delivered from LM Glasfiber’s factory in Bangalore as well as from a new factory under establishment in Dobespet, both in the state of Karnataka, which is a central area for the Indian wind energy market. Supply from the new factory is expected to begin in the middle of 2007.

Thorbjørn N. Rasmussen, President of Vestas Asia Pacific said: ”In 2005, the Indian wind energy market was the world’s fourth largest and it is a market with a very large potential: It has good wind conditions, rapid economic growth, growing demand for energy - in particular wind energy - to support its economic development. As the long-term supply agreement with LM Glasfiber includes blades for V82 turbines, a product we are selling to the growing market for MW turbines, this agreement contributes to form the basis of our growth strategy in India. By sourcing the blades locally in India, we obtain the local competitive advantages through reduced transport costs and less dependency on currency fluctuations.”

Søren F. Knudsen, sales and marketing director of LM Glasfiber says: ”The agreement marks a considerable prolongation and extension of the good cooperation which we have had with Vestas for years in India. The new supply agreement increases our order visibility up to and including 2009, and our capacity increase contributes to giving Vestas a considerable flexibility in their supply chain. We are happy that our global presence has had the effect that Vestas has chosen to prolong our cooperation in one of their important growth markets.”
