New Free Software Tool for Composites Selection and Costing

23 October 2006

Composites professionals have been invited to test EComp, a free online tool for composite material selection, process choice and cost calculation, which has been launched in its Beta format for public testing.

The tool has been developed by a European partnership of composites moulders, technology providers and research organisations, and is designed to act as an interactive guide for product designers and engineers who want to obtain cost estimates for composite components. The partnership is made up of Iva Leying, NetComposites, IZR Solutions, Molder Disnova, Aristeides Stathopoulos, Glas-craft, James Quinn Associates, CRIC, Pera, Aimplas and the University of Wales.

The tool will be free to the user, to encourage designers to explore the possibility of using composites and to promote further growth in the use of the materials. Because it will be free, it is expected to have widespread use, so the Beta version is being released for public testing to ensure that the tool is realistic and accurate.

The Beta version of the EComp tool, launched from the NetComposites web site, will be open for public testing until the end of October, after which the feedback will be used to undertake further modifications prior to final release. Individuals are invited to trial the tool and to provide feedback directly to Aimplas. For more information, and to test the tool, please click on the link below.
