Launch of the new Stimson 750/850 RIB range

Stimson Yachts and Carbon Index, both based in Cowes in the UK, are collaborating to design, build and promote a new range of high performance semi-custom RIBs, suitable for a wide variety of functions, from workboat to superyacht tender.

The designs boast deep-V hull forms, using lightweight yet robust cored composites. The high cure temperature hull and deck tooling has been developed with customisation in mind, enabling a range of composite build techniques and materials to be used depending on the client’s requirements, from wet lay up vinylester and E-glass, to epoxy Kevlar or carbon prepreg. Consoles and seating units are of lightweight yet strong carbon/epoxy construction as standard.

This lightweight approach also leads to low hook weights and low weight aloft for the mother ship, and ultimately the option to make greater speeds with lower hp (and therefore lighter) engines.

The first boat is currently in build and has been commissioned by the Cowes Harbour Commission. Harbour Master, Captain Stuart McIntosh, was particularly impressed with the way that Stimson Yachts and Carbon Index were able to fulfil their requirements in ways that other production RIB manufacturers couldn’t: “It was a refreshing experience to be told ‘yes’ rather than ‘no’ when we asked for particular features that will make our day to day useage of the RIB more practical – and more enjoyable. We are looking forward to having such an attractive yet functional boat leading our fleet here in Cowes.’
