Aerovac Systems and Richmond Aircraft Products, sister companies within the Composites Division of UMECO plc, have launched a new range of super-wide and self-releasing vacuum bagging films.
Aerovac said that the new products have been developed to meet the growing demand for ever wider films, in the wind energy and marine sectors in particular.
With the enormous growth in resin infusion applications particularly in the Wind Energy and Marine sectors in the past few years both Aerovac and Richmond have been working to increase their range of vacuum bagging films to support the industry demand for more cost effective and ever wider films. This has resulted in the development of several new products which they claim to have already gained widespread market approval.
The Vacfilm range has a current maximum seamless width of 10.5m (413”) with an imminent release of a 12m (472”) wide film to further enhance the Vacfilm range for resin infusion specialists.
Aerovac assert that two products rapidly gaining approval are VACFILM400Y which is a nylon based co extrusion for ambient and low temperature oven curing applications and VACFILM450V, also nylon based, which is designed for use in higher temperature cures and where high exotherm peaks may be experienced during infusion processing. VACFILM450V is also suitable for autoclave processing of composite structures up to 170°c (340°f).
Another recent development is VACFILM300R, suitable for autoclave use, is a self releasing tubular film and designed for use in internal bagging applications. It is particularly suited to the production of masts, booms and spinnaker poles for the marine industry and bicycle components such as frames, seat posts and handlebars where traditional nylon films can prove difficult to remove after the cure. The material can be used with both epoxy and phenolic resins and has a maximum recommended operating temperature of 160°C (320°F).
A wide range of sizes in all three products is available from stock from Richmond and Aerovac as well as their established worldwide distribution network.
TRB Lightweight Structures has recently gained the highest DIN 6701 (Parts 1-4) A1 type certification.
Composite products, based on polyurethane technologies from global chemical company Huntsman, are taking centre stage at a design exhibition at the Design Museum Gent, Belgium.
In late November, the 14 project partners in the MoPaHyb consortium developing a modular production plant for hybrid high-performance components wrapped up their successful efforts with a two-day symposium in Pfinztal, Germany.
