Composites Technology Research Malaysia (CTRM) has secured a five-year manufacturing contract extension for Airbus A320 structural composite wing components with BAE Systems Aerostructure worth 175 Million Euros.
CTRM acting General Manager for Corporate Marketing Wan Abd Halim said at the Paris Air Show that the extension programme for its subsidiary, CTRM Aero Composites, would cover the period of 2006 to 2010. With the extension, CTRM would supply leading and trailing edge panels, aileron panels, underwing panels, top assembly panels, moveable fairings, spoilers, fixed fairings and aft fixed fairings to Airbus through BAE Systems Aerostructure.
The companies participation in the Airbus A320 programme through BAE Systems Aerostructure started in 2001 with a 126 million Euros contract to manufacture leading edge and trailing edge panels until this year.
""We will become the largest composite wing components supplier for the A320 series of aircraft with about 20 per cent of the total parts of the wings following the new extension contract,"" Wan Abd Halim told journalists at the Malaysian pavilion at the Paris Air Show.
Wan Abd Halim said CTRM has also gained trust from Airbus to participate in its A380 programme, the world's largest commercial aircraft, and won a RM800-million (175 million Euros) contract in 2002 to design and build its fixed leading edge lower panels composite components for 20 years.
Wan Abd Halim said CTRM delivered the first set of the components for A380 to Airbus last year and up to date 12 sets had been manufactured by the company's plant in Melaka, Malaysia.
CTRM was now looking to supply composite wing components to other commercial and military aircraft builders such as Boeing, Bombardier and Rayteon in a move to expand its business opportunities and technological advancement.
""Our presence at this air show will enable us to look for wider business opportunities as all major aerospace and aviation players will be here. This is our working exhibition as we have arranged a tight schedule of meetings with potential clients,"" Wan Abd Halim added.
