At the JEC Awards 2004 ceremony, that took place on Tuesday, March 30 as part of the JEC Composites Show 2004, five partnerships were rewarded in the following categories:
AERONAUTICS - Composite spoiler centre fitting for the Airbus A 340 and A 330 wings presented by Cytec Engineered Materials (USA/UK) and their partner Fisher Advanced Composites Components (Austria).
LAND TRANSPORT - Hycoprod European project (development of cost-effective manufacturing methods for large monocoque sandwich structures) coordinated by the ARRC Advanced Railway Research Center (UK) and 18 partners from 11 countries: Ahlstrom Glassfibre Oy (Finland), Ashland Composite Polymers (UK), D’Appolonia SpA (Italy), Anthony, Patrick & Murta ExportaçaLtd (Portugal), Institut für Kunststoffverarbeitung IKV (Germany), Fibrocom Oy (Finland), Sicomp AB (Sweden), Box Modul AB (Sweden), TNO (Netherlands), Hübner GmbH (Germany), University of Perugia (Italy), National Technical University of Athens (Greece), Irizar S Coop (Spain), Ifor Williams Trailers (UK), Sistemas y Procesos Avanzados (Spain), APC Composit AB (Sweden), Technical University of Riga (Latvia), and Peter GFK (Czech Republic).
DESIGN - Silvretta-PURE ski mountaineering binding system developed by a.p.e advanced polymer engineering GmbH (Austria) and their partners Salewa SportGeräte (Germany), Breuerbono Design Consulting (Austria), 1zu1 Prototypen GmbH (Austria), WD Kunststofftechnik (Germany), Trivial Komoziti (Slovenia), S&W (Germany), Haas Metallguss (Germany), and DuPont de Nemours (Germany-USA).
INDUSTRY AND ENERGY - Composite thrust pad coating for large hydrogenerator hydrodynamic bearings developed by Alstom (Switzerland) and their partners Daido Metal Co Ltd (Japan) and BKW FMB Energie AG (Switzerland).
CONSTRUCTION - Roofing structure over the courtyard of the new City Courthouse in Pescara, Italy, composed of pultruded profiles produced by PR.AS Consulting Architects & Engineers (Italy) and their partners DCP Pultrusion (France) and Alphaplast (Italy).
The JEC Awards competition is open to companies from all countries as long as they have developed an exceptional ""composite solution"". Every year, they reward the best processes, applications and products in terms of quality, innovation and market openings.
This show featured guest speaker Cheick Modibo Diarr, Interplanetary explorer and UNESCO goodwill Ambassador
Cobra International will showcase a range of composite products at CAMX 2018, including carbon fibre components for the automotive, transportation, marine, water sports and luxury sectors.
3A Composites Core Materials reports that its BALTEK SB balsa core has been ABS-approved for more than 20 years.
UK company Prodrive Composites has developed a process for manufacturing recyclable composite components that can satisfy future end-of-life requirements without any compromise in the performance of the original parts. The company says the P2T (Primary to Tertiary) process not only simplifies recycling, but endows a composite material with the potential to fulfil three or more useful lifetimes.
