Fire causes $500,000 in damages to warehouse

30 September 2003

An afternoon fire caused a lot of damage at a warehouse in North Austin last Monday. Firefighters believe the fire started in a fiberglass manufacturing business and there were a series of small explosions.

The fire sent a plume of black smoke into the skyline and people could see it as far south as Downtown Austin. Austin firefighters helped Travis County put it out.

""I know the fiberglass business, there's a lot of flammables in it, and even though the gentleman [who] owns the shop is real careful, accidents do happen. Unfortunately, and it spreads rapidly,"" business owner Skip Hamrick said.
