The 2003 JEC Awards Prize Winners

Seven partnerships were rewarded at the JEC Awards ceremony, on the occasion of a unique soirée organised as part of the JEC composites show on the 1st of April 2003.

The JEC awards 2003 were presented in the following five categories:

Air Transport
Radius Engineering (USA) and their partners A&P Technology, Hexcel Composites and Bombardier Aerospace, for an aircraft wing flap entirely made of carbon composite, using braids and the RTM moulding technology.

A Tie For Automotive Transport
Inoplast (France) and their partners MCR and Renault, for a self-supporting rear floor for an automobile made of light SMC, and Menzolit Fibron (Germany) and their partners Daimler Chrysler AG and Volkswagen, for an automotive trunk lid made of SMC composite.

Building And Construction
Chomarat Composites (France) and their partner Tech Fab, Old Castle, for a reinforcement for construction panels.

Covess NV (Belgium) and their partners Saint-Gobain Vetrotex and Quadrant Symalit AG, for a tank entirely made of glass fibre-reinforced polypropylene for pressures up to 100 bars, made up of three units welded together.

Sports & Culture
FILA SPORT (Italy) and their partners Isovolta, Z Engineering, Marco Bonardo Distribution, and SEM TT Bugis Group, for their special shoes for Formula 1/rally pilots (Michael Schumacher).

This year, JEC has created the ""Special Jury Award"" in order to recompense Composites On Tour (Belgium) and their partners Design Museum GENT, Composittrailer, Technische Universitieit Delf – Faculty of Aerospace Engineering, UK for Materials Education, University of Liverpool, Vlaams Instituut Voor Zglestandie Ondernemen (VIZO), University of Napoli – Federico II – Department of Materials and Production Engineering, KU Leuven – Department MTM, for their initiative to make composites better known amongst the general public.
