Vitro Fiberglass Subsidiary

09 March 2001

Fiberglass maker Vitro Fibras, a subsidiary of Mexico's Grupo Vitro, has won the first-ever Ibero-American Quality Prize and is looking forward to sales growth of 6 percent during the current year, according to a report in Mexico City daily Reforma. Vitro Fibras makes 25 groups of fiberglass products, or approximately 5,000 product types, that are utilized by companies such as automakers and home-appliance manufacturers. Company CEO Carlos Jaime Valdez Garza said at least 70 percent of the firm's output is sold on the Mexican market, with the remainder exported to countries such as the United States and Canada, and to export markets in Latin America. Vitro Fibras operates four plants in Mexico -- in Mexico City, Monterrey, Mexicali and San Luis Potosi. It has sales offices in Houston, Texas and in Argentina.
