The “Infrastructure Composites Report-2001” forecasts that the Infrastructure Sector of Industrial Markets for “Emerging” FRP composites applications will grow by over 500% between 2000 and 2010.
The North American market value of fabricated FRP composite structures for emerging infrastructure applications is estimated at $113 million today and will grow to $847 million by 2010 (750% increase over 10 years). The Worldwide market value is forecast at $268 million today, and will grow to $1.4 billion by 2010 (525% increase over 10 years).
The global building, civil construction, waterfront, concrete repair/strengthening, and utilities markets are changing rapidly. The deterioration of the installed infrastructure due to corrosion, aging, weather, accident, under-design, and damaging events like earthquakes is leading to increased opportunities for new materials and structures as part of a major thrust to Infrastructure Renewal.
