Composites relevant to the BIMST Region

21 December 2000

New Delhi is to prepare an action plan for the technological development of the BIMST Region comprising Bangladesh, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and Thailand with India already being designated as the lead country for technology, transportation and communication sectors. Some of the areas relevant for the region include agro-instrumentation, biotechnology, food technology, information technology, medicines and pharmaceuticals, new materials and composites, environment and disaster management. This was disclosed by the Minister of State for Science and Technology Shri Bachi Singh Rawat while inaugurating the first meeting of the BIMST Economic Cooperation Expert Group on Technology. Shri Rawat said the technology flow between India and neighbouring countries has been limited and as a region it has been sourcing technologies from the developed countries. It is an opportune time for India to re-examine this approach.
