TenCate Performance Composites is seeking an experienced composites process engineer to support thermoplastic composite product and process development activities.   

Job Description and Essential Functions

  • Moderate to advance knowledge of composite materials and industry
  • 5+ years of engineering experience for composites
  • Experience in thermoplastics (composites or compounded resins)
  • Knowledge in Acrylic resins
  • Hands on experience in composite materials processing
  • Develop and produce materials using resin formulation and mixing, pre-preg, lamination, thermoforming, compression moulding, lamination, and kitting processes
  • Knowledge in Resin Transfer Moulding (RTM) or other closed mould processes used for composites
  • Testing of composite materials. Performing verification and validation on products
  • Project management
  • Development and implementation of product and process specifications
  • Participates in initiation phase of new product lines to assist in design for cost effective manufacturing, building tooling by motion economy principles
  • Recommends methods of improving efficiency and reducing waste of materials and utilities such as re-organising work flow, relocating work stations and equipment and purchase of equipment
  • Measures variances to standards, identifies out of control variances, investigates reasons, suggests solutions, installs and follows up
  • Create and maintain technical documentation in accordance with ISO 9001 standard requirement
  • Maintain 5S program
  • Other duties as assigned

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the Process Engineer is regularly required to talk to hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit and use hands to finger, handle or feel. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Manage projects
  • Lead engineers and technicians in a project environment 

Language Skills:

  • Ability to read, analyse and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or government regulations.
  • Business language
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public
  • Spanish and/or Mandarin are a plus

Mathematical Skills:

  • Engineering or equivalent degree level required

Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables

Special Skills:  Experience in composite materials, processes (resins, lamination, parts manufacturing), tooling and equipment is a requirement.  Expertise in thermoplastic composites desired.  Experience in Project management and Design of Experiments required.
