Job Brief: We are looking to recruit a project engineer to provide materials science and/or mechanical engineering support to the portfolio of polymer composites and nanomaterials development projects at Haydale Composite Solutions Ltd. Projects could be either R&D or commercial in nature, but initially will be focused towards R&D projects.

You will have prior experience with composite materials and/or polymers in a design, R&D or production role and should have a good understanding of materials science and engineering principles and their application.

Deliver theoretical and practical materials science and engineering support to the ongoing portfolio of HCS materials development projects including:

  • Literature reviews and reports
  • Concept design, development, evaluation
  • Materials development, selection and evaluation
  • Materials processing
  • Materials and product testing and analysis, including arranging sub-contract testing
  • Prototype production
  • Report writing and presentation

Minimum level of education and experience required for acceptable job performance.

  • Degree educated (or equivalent) in engineering or materials science
  • Experience of working in an engineering/scientific/development environment
  • Knowledge and practical use of basic engineering skills e.g. fabrication, assembly, machining
  • A good understanding of engineering materials and their properties especially composites, polymers, nanomaterials or elastomers
  • A good understanding of polymer composites production techniques
  • A good understanding of materials science and/or theoretical and applied mechanical and engineering principles
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience
  • Capable of liaising with internal and external bodies in accordance with the needs of the company
  • Good presentation and interpersonal skills

  • Planning and organisational skills with the ability to effectively prioritise and execute tasks
  • Ability to analyse and interpret data, identify improvements and iterate into new designs/processes
  • Ability to interact effectively with various levels of professionals inside and outside of the organisation
  • High-level proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
  • Proven practical hands-on abilities including workshop skills
  • Aptitude for problem solving
  • Excellent verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Highly self-motivated, open minded and flexible
  • Hold a Full UK driving licence, a willingness to travel by public transport or by own car is required as this post involves some travel including overnight and international at times

£27.5k to £37.5k, dependent on skills and experience, plus benefits including 25 days paid annual leave, contributory pension scheme, private medical insurance and share options.
