Quickstep is an Australian-listed company which manufactures advanced composite in Australia and develops and licenses advanced composite manufacturing technologies for the global market.
'Composites' are materials made by combining a number of different elements with the aim of getting an end result or property - for example combining carbon fibre and resin. Advanced composites tend to be high-strength fibres such as carbon fibre embedded with performance resins such as epoxy resins. These materials are used extensively in the aerospace and defence industries, and are increasingly used in high-performance and electric powered cars.
Quickstep has significant capabilities and expertise in the production of aerospace-grade advanced composite components using both conventional autoclave-based manufacturing and leading out-of-autoclave production technologies, including our patented Quickstep Process and Resin Spray Transfer (RST).
Quickstep has three distinct business units:
The Company currently operates from its fully-commissioned aerospace-grade manufacturing facility located at Bankstown Airport, NSW, Australia, with equipment, expertise and capabilities that are unrivalled by any other independent advanced composites manufacturer in Australia.
The first major manufacturing agreement signed by Quickstep was with Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman in November 2009 for the manufacture of parts for the international F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) program. The Memorandum of Understanding Quickstep signed with Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman covers the manufacture of composite doors and panels for the F-35 aircraft expected to form work packages potentially valued at hundreds of millions of dollars over the projected 20 year life of the aircraft program. The Company delivered its first JSF part more than a month ahead of schedule in October 2011. More recently in March 2014, Quickstep signed a long term agreement with Marand/BAE SYSTEMS to produce 700 shipsets of composite parts for the vertical tail of the F-35. Find out more about our JSF manufacturing program.
In March 2012, Quickstep was awarded a contract to supply the C-130J wing flaps by Lockheed Martin. A long term agreement was signed in December 2013, leading to a first delivery in February 2014. Quickstep now delivers two shipsets of those flaps each month. Find out more about our C-130J Program.
Quickstep is actively targeting further manufacturing contracts, backed by a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility and aerospace team.
To help potential Quickstep Process customers see our service offering first hand – particularly the benefits of our patented out-of-autoclave Quickstep Process for composites manufacturing - Quickstep has established showcase sites in strategic locations around the world. In addition to our headquarters in Australia, the Company has a manufacturing and R&D facility at Deakin University, Waurn Ponds, Geelong and a demonstration centre in Germany, providing access to Quickstep’s manufacturing equipment and fully trained technicians.
