Scott Bader will be promoting its materials solutions for manufacturers of composite parts under a new ‘Making a Positive Difference’ corporate banner, with new look marketing branding for the complete adhesives range being unveiled at JEC.
On the stand will be a single–handed Olympic class Laser sailing dinghy, raced at the Rio 2016 games and past Olympics. Laser dinghies have an FRP composite hull and deck, designed and manufactured by LaserPerformance in the UK, North America and China using high performance, marine approved resins, gelcoats, core bonding and structural adhesive materials from Scott Bader. LaserPerformance is a global lifestyle brand and composites manufacturer of small sailboats.
Material solutions being promoted on the Scott Bader stand this year include: high performance polyester, vinyl ester and acrylic thermoset resins with compatible glass, carbon and aramid fibre reinforcements; Bonding Pastes, Crestomer and Crestabond structural adhesives for bonding metals, plastic and composite substrates. A new ‘zero styrene’ gelcoat will officially be launched at JEC. This latest gelcoat technology innovation, developed by Scott Bader’s R & D team, is already specified by a leading global wind turbine blade producer. Scott Bader says it offers FRP moulders interested in the very lowest shop floor emissions possible, an even better alternative to its existing Crystic Ecogel ‘ultra-low styrene’ gelcoat range, which was launched at JEC, Paris back in 2013.
Scott Bader is also giving open forum presentations during the first two days of the show. On Tuesday 14 March, at 14:30, Neil Gray - Global Market Manager, Fire, Smoke & Toxic Fume (FST) Performance Products will be speaking on the topic of Scott Bader's high performance FST resin and gelcoat systems - successes in the rail and building & construction markets. As the impact of the European harmonised FST standards for Rail (EN45545) and Building & Construction (EN13501) increases on the whole Composites value chain, this presentation will provide a summary overview of European FST specifications in rail and building & construction, technically highlighting the Scott Bader resin and gelcoat systems developed to achieve these specifications, and include case study examples of successful global applications. On Wednesday 15 March at 13:30, Malcolm Forsyth - Director, Global Strategy will speak about Sustainable Development in the Composites industry - how a resin supplier like Scott Bader can make a major contribution. The presentation will examine the contribution of resin suppliers to making the use of composite materials more sustainable across the whole value chain from raw materials to ‘end of life’ and the areas where a wider industry cooperation is needed, as well as highlighting a number of product and process initiatives that Scott Bader is already making towards improving sustainability within composites.
Other products and services being promoted on the Scott Bader stand during JEC World 2017 includes the full range of FST (Fire, Smoke, and Toxicity) filled resin and gelcoat FRP laminate systems options for hand lay-up, infused and pultruded parts, with all the fire standards passed and independent test certifications gained for a variety of rail, land transportation, marine and building applications; an expanded ‘GelTint’ volumetric gelcoat colour tinting service with more locally approved suppliers for European customers; a wider network of national and regional distributors which import and locally supply Scott Bader products around the world.
Linked to the presentation being given on day two, Scott Bader will also be looking to meet like-minded players in the composites market who are interested in working together to co-develop more sustainable composite products and processes for the future.
In addition, Scott Bader’s Crestapol 1212 FST Resin System will also feature in the JEC 2017 Innovation Awards, where Acciona Construcción has won this year’s JEC Construction Innovation Award for its highly innovative pultruded composite panels, used as a leak-proof lining system in a Spanish high-speed railway tunnel construction project.
Anurag Bansal, Head of Composite Process for Acciona Construcción commented, “We have successfully used Scott Bader’s Crestapol 1212 resin for several construction projects. We have found it to be the best quality and most cost effective pultrusion resin overall, with a reliable supply service. It enables us to run our lines at optimum processing conditions for high productivity at the high additive levels needed to meet the FST criteria and provides all the other mechanical properties for the end application.”
