Closing Date: Tuesday, 11th April 2017
Job Type: Administrative Professional & Managerial
Salary: £38183 to £46924 per annum, depending on skills and experience. Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance.
Applications are invited for the above post based in the recently funded EPSRC Future Composites Manufacturing Hub, hosted by the University of Nottingham. The aim of the Hub is to engage academics from across the UK with a broad range of industrial partners to deliver a step change in the production of polymer matrix composites. The Hub is led by the University of Nottingham and University of Bristol and initially includes 4 other UK universities, 4 High Value Manufacturing Catapult Centres, backed by 18 leading companies from the composites sector. The primary functions of the post are to develop strategies to leverage additional R&D funding, map the capability and needs of industrial partners and ultimately influence future funding priorities in composites manufacturing. Together with the Hub Manager, the Research and Business Development Manager will work to encourage and facilitate engagement of all stakeholders, keeping them fully informed of project progress, developing IP, opportunities for IP protection and licensing, new funding opportunities, and employment opportunities as Doctoral students complete their studies. The role holder will also work to align Hub technology developments with national roadmaps, to ensure these developments remain innovative and timely and directly impact stakeholders.
The role requires someone who will take the initiative to establish and develop this new role within the Hub. We are looking for a dynamic and confident individual who will be able to raise the Hub’s profile as an organisation at the forefront of composites research. The role holder will be expected to build an expert understanding of the composite industry’s landscape, to proactively identify and pursue opportunities for future R&D funding. The successful individual will be an enthusiastic communicator with extensive experience in business development within a higher education institution or within a research context. Applicants with other business development experience are encouraged to apply, but must demonstrate a strong track record of engaging with research funding bodies (such as Innovate UK, ATI or BIS) and the higher education sector. Experience of working on collaborative projects within the UK and EU is also desirable.
Applicants should be qualified to degree level (or equivalent) with ideally an engineering or applied science background. The role holder will be expected to demonstrate the ability to work flexibly and effectively with a wide range of stakeholders in the composites field. It should be noted that the role will involve significant travel between the UK based partners, with the possibility of some international travel.
This full-time post is offered on a fixed-term contract until 31 December 2023 in line with the funding agreement with the EPSRC, who reserve the right to withdraw the funding at the mid-term point following a formal review.
